Of course, it is a 'should be' issue.This part has confused me recently. Any chance you can expand on the use of the config.xml. I am not sure I understand it's purpose if you have already created an MSP that answers the same questions? It's seems like duplication?I was doing this via SCCM and while I got it working it also does not activate despite being provided a key. I can manually activate it without issue after the fact and maybe it is just that the config.xml does NOT specifiy the key?.confused.
That is right. There is more than one way to prepare a configuration. You can go by the OPK, the MSP file and there is not just a full set of configuration definitions as you can also change many of the environment visual effects. There is extensive data on OEM and OPK from Microsoft.
They are good at extensive data for this kind of stuff. I personnaly use the config.xml, because it is simple and no, I don't need my logo, my color, my button shortcut somewhere.
I just want a clean, no trouble, effortless end-user experience. Regarding the problem with the key activation, you are all right, even if you use the KMS server, it should verifiy the condition of the key itself for wich type of 'distribution' it is meant for. Don't forget that one of the latest functions of the Office package is the availability of installing a full set of 'trial key' modules (word, excel, etc.) and after you insert the final key, it works like an intelligent key and office will reinstall itself (more like hide the apps) for the modules that you have or haven't acquired.
By the way, the config.xml just needs to be in the root of the office installation, so you can user a network share for easier remote volume installations. This is a sample, of course, that works for my network volume licenses. It will only install Word, Excel and PowerPoint in this setup.
